Skyscanner

You are not alone, I used to do that all the time! I have rounded up the best sites to use so you can compare and get the best deal possible:

Ever get stressed booking a flight wondering if you got the best deal possible?

This site was the first I used to compare flights and is still one of my favorites to use. They have a feature that lets you search a destination by the cheapest month which is an amazing tool!

Hopper

While Hopper is a great app to use to compare flights the only downsize is there is no way to use the website to search flights. It’s a great tool to use to monitor ticket prices and compare price drops.

Scott’s Cheap Flight

This site is perfect if you are flexible with your dates. You can select the city you want to leave from, and it will send you the best flight deals. I have been able to discover deals to destination I never even thought to visit!

As an American I have been very privileged in terms of Visas.

Most countries I don’t even need to check if I can enter, because I have a US passport. Although it's uncommon there are places that even an American needs a Visa such as China and Russia.

It's always a smart idea to check the country you are visiting to see if a Visa is required for entry or if you need a Visa after a certain amount of days. I use the site Cibt Visas to check if I will need a Visa. You can also check your countries travel page

World Nomads

Traveling insurance is one of those things most people never think about until they need it.

I 100% always recommend having travel insurance not only to make sure your health is ensured but your belongings and things that happen outside of your control. When I moved to Bali, I knew travel insurance was something I needed to have. It turned out when I was ready to come home, Bali’s volcano was getting ready to blow. Travel insurance protected me when I need to move up my flights. Whether your trip is one week or one year always protect yourself by having it!

Hotels.com

This site is very easy to navigate through and offers great filter features. This is best when you are looking for hotels in bigger cities.

I love my self some good public transportation but certain places having a car is the best option. Ireland and Scotland were a few of the best places to rent a car! I was able to explore the countryside at my own pace without being on someone else’s schedule. Enterprise is hands down my favorite car company to use for rentals whether abroad or domestic.

Beep Beep!

One of my favorite things to do in another country is to be in control of getting around

This is a great site if you are looking for a huge selection of hotels. They are in over 200 countries and offer all types of stay from budget to luxe.

Whether you are traveling for one week or one year a portable wifi is one of the best things you can invest in. International data plans can be expensive and unreliable. I have used Skyroam countless times and it’s a staple for my travels. They offer great daily rates as low as $5!

When I first started traveling I had no idea what a VPN was. The simple explanation is having a VPN protects your data. Every time you login to a public wifi whether at a hotel or café having a VPN helps protect you from being hacked. I never travel without a VPN now and am always thankful to have it!

Google Walking Maps

Plan your Trip

When planning a trip one of my go to tools is google walking maps. You can create customized maps of a city you want to visit. Check how close a hotel is to the activities you plan on doing or the best walkable routes. I have created hundreds of walking maps that you can check for your next trip. You can view those here by clicking any destination you want to explore! One of my most popular is three days in London.

Pinterest

Many people associate Pinterest with a place to find cool DIY or home décor. Pinterest is a great tool to plan your next trip and I use it often! You can search for trips based on your budget, ideal climate or certain activities. I have discovered tons of unique travel experiences on this app. You can view my Pinterest here for tons of travel-based boards.

Tripit

I am known for being a bit of a planner with trips (I’m a virgo so I can’t help it). Tripit has become one of my favorite apps to use! You can forward all of your confirmations for flights, hotels, activities and they will create an itinerary for you. It can even sync up to your calendar, so you never miss a flight or forget an activity. Plus you can use its web based version and it will sync with your app.

When traveling it's best to always assume they will only speak their country’s native language.

While more often than not they will speak English, you don’t want to assume so you should always be prepared.

Duolingo

If you really want to immerse yourself in the culture and learn the language, then you need to download Duolingo. It’s a free app that will teach you over 100 languages! You can spend less than ten minutes a day and get down most basic phrases.

Google Translator

One of the best apps to download for international travel. You can download languages even if you don’t have access to wifi. Before any trip I will download that location's translator to make sure I can communicate
