Germany is not only a large country but one with a very diverse landscape. You can go from forest to river to mountains then to the sea. Known for its Oktoberfest, amazing architecture and art it’s one of the top destinations to visit while in Europe. Germany has an old history that dates back to 1st century BC. They have gone through wars, dictatorships and some of that has been recent.
In 1961 the Berlin wall went up which dived West and East Berlin, it cut West Berlin off from the rest of Eastern Germany. The wall went up as a way to keep out fascists from Western Germany before they could enter and spread their ideologies through Eastern Germany. Over 2 million escaped during the time the wall was up from 1961 to its fall in 1990. After its fall Berlin once again became one city no longer divided.

One of my favorite hotels in the world because it’s not a hotel it’s a castle! If you have ever wanted to live out your princess fantasies this is the place to do it. Amazing ground with truly the best service. Each room is unique designed, and it feels like you have been transported back in time. They have an amazing onsite spa and fantastic dining options.

If you are looking for true luxury mixed with beautiful scenery this is the place for you. Located in the Tegernsee Valley they sit on one of the cleanest lakes in Bavaria. They have been in service for over 135 years! This is a really special location and one that you absolutely want to stay at during a visit to Germany!

He is one of my favorite people in history because of his drive to challenge the way we viewed the world. I mean he is the guy who gave us the quote: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” True words to live by. His claim to fame was when he developed the theory of relativity. He came up with two theories one for special relativity and one for general relativity. If you remember from school when you discuss gravity it all comes from how Einstein challenged the old theory.

Traditional German foods are schnitzel, pretzels, bratwurst, currywurst and black forest gateau.
If you are wanting authentic old school German food this is the place! Established in 1849 you still sit on communal wooden tables that is beer hall style! Its super affordable and you get large amounts of food!

This restaurant is modern and minimalist in décor but big in flavor! They use all local ingredients for all of their dishes. Featuring food from pot roast and stews they offer a new and modern twist on old classic dishes. You will have amazing quality food at a reasonably affordable rate.

If you are looking for fine dining in style this is it! Located inside the hotel castle Schlosshotel Kronberg this is one of the best restaurants in the country! You can have both lunch and dinner here, but the real winner is the 6 course tasting menu. It changes seasonally and the quality is outstanding.

BOOKS BASED IN Germany
Germany is on the Europlug or what is called a C & F socket. To avoid issues, you will need an adapter AND convertor! I would recommend BESTEK Universal it works in multiple destinations and has USB ports. I have been using it for a while and love it! Now all my ladies out there you will need a DIFFERENT adapter for your curling irons and straighteners. I know its extra money but trust me! I have blown out a few curling irons, it’s worth the extra money and luggage space. Conair has the best adapter for pretty much every country. Check it out here.
Plugs
One of the biggest misconceptions is that the only type of food available is Wurst, Schnitzel and beer. Now yes while you can find those things you will also find amazing Indian, French and seafood! Germany truly has some amazing and diverse food selections all over the country.
Common Misconceptions
Germany is one of the safest countries to travel through even as a solo female traveler. Bigger cities your main concerns will be pickpockets. Keep your belongings close and always be mindful. For more information click here.
Safety
Germany is really a year-round destination! Christmas time is amazing because of the Christmas markets which are some of the best in Europe. Fall is beautiful if you want to explore the countryside. No matter when you go you will have an amazing time!
When to Visit
Be aware of the “no-shop Sundays” most stores in Germany are closed on Sundays. Make sure to plan accordingly.

Germany is a part of the EU which means they are on the Euro. In larger cities you will not have a problem accessing an ATM. In smaller ideas having cash on you is always a good idea.

HOW TO GET AROUND
The best way to get around in the cities is by using the U-Bahn. This is their over and underground tram. Similar to the Tube in London or the subway in New York. If you are in smaller cities or want to explore the countryside renting a car is a great option.

Wifi is available at most locations for free but it will be limited. Depending on the length of your trip either add international to your plan or invest in a portable wifi. A company I use often is SkyRoam, they have very affordable rates!
Being the history nerd that I am one of the most unique things you can do in Germany is seeing the Berlin Wall. It’s such an iconic and important piece of history its worth a visit!
